Dr. Jessica Jacob is well known for her low cesarean section rate, her low NTSV rate, and her high rate of successful vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC). The NTSV rate is the method by which an obstetrician’s performance is measured; since a low C-section rate is the best way to avoid high morbidity and mortality, as well as being advantageous for the mother in many other ways, it is now recognized that a lower C-section rate is ideal. The best way to measure an individual doctor's true C-section rate, we now assess the C-section rate on women who are “Nullips” (having their first baby), Term (babies that are pre-term are taken out of the equation), Singleton (twins, and higher order multiples have a higher C-section rate), and Vertex (babies in a breech position, especially in a first time mother are generally delivered by C-section).
Dr. Jacob’s NTSV rate is among the lowest in the state of New York. Additionally, she does a higher number of VBACs than the average OBGYN, with patients traveling from a wide geographical area for the opportunity to deliver vaginally after one or two previous cesarean sections.
In 2024, Dr. Jacob’s NTSV rate was 8% (average rate in NYS was 23%), and her total C-section rate was 18% (average rate in NYS was 33%).
